josh's view of expedition 3

Wednesday of the first week of the expedition we did ground school. Ground school is where we learned how to tie all sorts of climbing knots like the figure 8 follow through, the Butterfly and the Prussic. We also learned how to repel with a figure 8. Not the knot. Try not to think that the knot is the same because it’s not. That’s kind of a tongue twister isn’t it? We did it all with AT 2.
Thursday, we went top roping and repelling. When I was repelling I failed and fell upside down on the rope. My feet were pointing towards the sky and my head was towards the ground.
The next two days we did school in the Forrest Discovery Center.  It was a heated building and there were cool examples of taxidermy.  Taxidermy is basically where people stuff dead animals and put some chemical on the fur and put in fake eyes.
Saturday, Peter, Anna, Natalie and I went to the highest point in West Virginia to eat chicken nuggets.  It was called Spruce Knob, and there was snow up there.
Sunday we did community service at the Discovery Center, and we also accepted Nikocopuff ( Niko) into the group at that time.  During community service we raked and pulled weeds to repay the use of the warm class room.
Monday I went roping with Eric, Katy, Niko and Will, plus Natalie who just slept on the rocks… ALL DAY LONG.
Tuesday I summited with Niko, Anna, Peter, Garrett, Katy and Moira.
Those were just most of the good and fun things we did on expedition.

  1. Big Guy, It is great to explore the mountains with you. Those chicken nuggets must have tasted great. How much katsup did you bring? You must of needed an extra back pack to carry it with you. Your doing a great job ! I love you.

  3. Hi Josh:
Loved reading your new blog. I know how much you like to tie knots in rope. Now you've learned new ones. After seeing the pictures of all of you climbing the rocks and repelling off the cliffs, I got dizzy just thinking about it. What a great accomplishment for you to achieve. What a funny name you all have given to niko. Now that I know you're skilled in raking and pulling weeds-guess what a job I'll have for you enxt summer!!
